HISTORICAL WALKING TOUR

Picture

About the city

Paraty's unique XIX century colonial urban planning and architecture makes it one of the most picturesque places in the world.  The city was almost completely forgotten from the end of the 1800s until the middle 1900s, keeping most of it in great state of conservation.

On this walk you will learn about Paraty's importance as a portal for travelers and their impact on the development of several historical eras of Brazil, from the pre-columbian times, until now.  Such as the terminus of the 800 km "Golden Road" that financed the Portuguese empire for many years.

The streets themselves are closed to car traffic due to the historic nature of the cobblestone.

We will visit different buildings and landmarks within the historic downtown like Churches, old houses and squares.

About its culture

Its privileged position in between the city of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro on an area known as Costa Verde (The Green Coast) among with its astonishing nature and  biodiversity has made a must-do for travelers traveling in between these two cities.

Considered as well "A city for festivals", the streets get full almost every month with events of all sorts.  The highlights, for sure, are the International Literary Festival of Paraty (FLIP), Bourbon Jazz Festival, MIMO Music Festival and the Cachaça Festival.

We will give you the details of what is happening in town and the surrounding  during your stay and we will recommend you several options for enjoying its gastronomic scenario, also recognized by UNESCO.

During the walk we will stop on a specialty coffee roast house to enjoy some local tastes and there is always a choice to have an annotated lunch or dinner on one of the many excellent restaurants on the city.
