About the city
Paraty's unique XIX century colonial urban planning and architecture makes it one of the most picturesque places in the world. The city was almost completely forgotten from the end of the 1800s until the middle 1900s, keeping most of it in great state of conservation.
On this walk you will learn about Paraty's importance as a portal for travelers and their impact on the development of several historical eras of Brazil, from the pre-columbian times, until now. Such as the terminus of the 800 km "Golden Road" that financed the Portuguese empire for many years. The streets themselves are closed to car traffic due to the historic nature of the cobblestone. We will visit different buildings and landmarks within the historic downtown like Churches, old houses and squares. |
